September, 2021 - back to town

Shelter Island, NY, August 2021

greetings all,

Hope this finds you well and enjoying a beautiful, safe and pleasure-filled summer. Thirty-five years in, teaching the Alexander Technique continues to engage me. I’m grateful to work in a discipline where long experience enhances and serves my effectiveness. Unwinding the mysteries of embodiment and interacting with students remains compelling. I hope to share my expertise with as many people as I can.

STUDY OPTIONS

VIRTUAL STUDY

Having now taught many virtual private lessons and group classes, I can say with certainty… CONNECTION DOES HAPPEN through the ethers. KINETIC messages are conveyed, people learn and evolve. We COMMUNICATE despite obstacles, students EXPERIENCE genuine change in their daily lives.

Despite physical distance, much is possible in a lesson. Virtual study provides remarkable evidence of the direct connections between thought, language, sensory acuity and just plain feeling better.

Comments from a “virtual lessons only” student: “… Judith was extremely talented in helping me to visualize the changes that I needed to make to relieve the pain that I was in. After very few sessions, I can happily report that I am now pain free. This is after twenty years of trying one thing after another, with no lasting results…” View more endorsements here.

VIRTUAL STUDY OPTIONS. Gather together friends/colleagues to create a GROUP CLASS SERIES. Or, study through PRIVATE LESSONS.

THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE refines and retunes somatic intelligence and awareness. It helps ease and eliminate chronic pain due to harmful movement/postural patterns. Alexander work elicits freedom and ease in communication, performance, and creative flow. It invites choice in how daily life plays out, moment by moment. It’s entirely possible to change lifelong movement and tension patterns and increase our abilities to be happily at home in our own skin, at any age.

ALEXANDER STUDY is a pragmatic, practical process. And, at the same time — intuitive and creative.

The process is subtractive. The Alexander Technique helps us to recognize and release confining habits, allowing our movement to be informed, instead, by the body’s natural design. A pleasurable piece of this design is the IMAGINATION. The ability to imagine and manifest other possibilities of movement and mind is an essential element of Alexander work. It’s an avenue into our human-ness.

Visualizing, Actualizing, Gratitude  Along with the glorious freedoms that have returned for some of us in the past few months, strife and hardship continues around the globe. It seems that an element of necessary change involves individually waking up into awareness and humanity, as sentient beings. My hope is that our work together contributes in some way, directly or indirectly, large or small, to growing our collective humanity and world community.

I’m aglow with gratitude for all the incredible students/humans/humanity that teaching has brought my way through the years. You give me hope and bring joy!

ALL GOOD WISHES for a wonderful end of summer, and happy start to Autumn, wherever you are. I hope to see you soon.

Judith

Remembering George Kokis, Artist, Mythologist, Mentor, Friend, King

This week GEORGE KOKIS, master clay sculptor, mythologist extraordinaire, and I am sure a King from days of yore, made his journey to the other side. George was one of the most important teachers/mentors that life has brought me. When I was a new Alexander teacher, I had the good fortune of teaching each summer for 10 years at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. I met some of my greatest, lifelong friends at Penland, and two of my most important guides and teachers. Paulus Berensohn and GEORGE KOKIS. George invited me to take part in his workshop, “THE ODYSSEY IN CLAY.” He brought me back into the eternal world of Greek Mythology that I had loved as a child. George showed me how putting various elements together in the room, along with an art process, produced an alchemy of spirit, growth, and access to the muse. His work was an enormous incentive for me to teach in Greece and to create my own classes fusing myth, dance, Alexander/somatic awareness, spoken word, and environment. Participants in my Greece workshops have experienced a part of George’s legacy - he inspired and encouraged me, and so many others, so much! George was deeply devoted to his family, students, the creative spirit, to joy of living. George, I shall do many Greek Folk Dances for you! You are there every time I face my fears about bringing all these elements together. You taught me so much about calling the Goddesses and Gods into my life. My love and condolences to your beloved wife Cindy and the family. Paulus and George, I hope you are visiting together now. FLY FREE GEORGE. WE LOVE YOU.
